The Orres ski area is located in the Hautes Alpes and is one of the southernmost ski areas in the Alps. Due to its southern location, the distance between the Netherlands and the region is great, but it also offers considerable advantages. The sun shines three hundred days a year and the snow is always good. Before Christmas, a lot of snow often falls, which provides enough snow for the whole winter.
The area consists of 88 km of slopes and 40 km of cross-country ski trails. 23 ski lifts are used for this purpose, mainly ski lifts and chairlifts. The slopes are located on the northwest side of the slope, so snow conditions are generally good. There are plenty of red and blue runs, not too difficult but great fun for families. About half of the surface is covered with forest.
True family destination
This is where the Orres stand out. He tries to attract families in every way possible. For example, almost all the slopes end in the central square of the village, there is a ski pass that gives a discount to families and the ski schools organize all kinds of entertainment for children.
In the heart of the sunny Hautes-Alpes is the Serre ponçon lake. The lake covers an area of 3000 ha and is the largest artificial lake in Europe. The dike (built from 1955 to 1961), at the confluence of the Durance and Ubaye rivers, has a height of 124 m and a width of 630 m.
